Abstract

This chapter traces a historical perspective of food consumption, starting from the Middle Ages, and goes on to discuss an Indian perspective, where food is classified as satwic, rajasic, and tamasic categories, each imparting a specific mental trait in the individual consuming the food in question and how it reflects on the person’s behavioral pattern.
