Abstract

This chapter highlights the importance of focusing on the incipient stages of partnership work by exploring considerations for setting up student–staff partnerships. The in-depth exploration of the experience of partnership work of five staff and student interviewees reveals considerations related to advertising, initial project management and induction, and ultimately to creating space to recognise new forms of expertise. Using online interviews, which involved creating timelines of the participants’ experiences, we explore beginnings, transformations and the necessity of being mindful of formative experiences when initiating any student–staff partnership.
