Abstract

In this chapter, an attempt will be made to understand the role of ‘instinct ’ in the overall configuration and infrastructure of the psyche—especially as this metapsychological concept of instinct pertains to how it is defined or understood. Therefore, questions in this chapter will be considered regarding the definition and function of instinct .
