Abstract
With the foreseeable occurrence of pests and diseases in the forest, with the exponential growth of forest invasive species, and with the increased risk of forest fires, it is necessary to make an assessment and a state of play on the current state of the forest in Portugal. In this way, it is intended to find potential solutions to prevent the problems that will surely happen. In this chapter this analysis and discussion is made, but recommendations are also made, for example, for the prevention of forest fires through the adoption of measures such as the extension of the surveillance period beyond the traditional period, since with the occurrence of anomalies It is foreseeable that these may arise even outside the so-called “normal” season for forest fires.
