Abstract

This chapter is devoted to the power management of hybrid wind systems. It describes the different configurations and the different combinations of hybrid systems. A remarkable number of studies in the literature are dedicated to the power management of hybrid power systems, including several alternative techniques such as intelligent approaches, optimal control approaches and model-based predictive controllers. The purpose of the power management control is to coordinate the different sources of a hybrid system, particularly their power exchange, in order to make the generated power controllable, to control the DC bus voltage, to ensure the continuity of the load supply and to decrease the cost of energy production. The power management strategy depends on the type of energy system and its components. Power management controls under different scenarios are presented. Applications, made under MATLAB/Simulink, to standalone systems and electric vehicles are presented.
