Abstract

This chapter examines the fact that Hamlet remained part of M&W’s repertoire throughout their career, on stage, radio, television, and in their written work, combining comic fantasies with multiple discourses. Eric and Ernie’s adaptations of Hamlet provide a useful analytical summary of their many modes of Shakespop iteration and appropriation. Deploying the Danish prince within a range of Variety contexts and characterizations, acting, directing, and guying ‘Bardbiz’ all emerge as fundamental tropes.
