Individual Sign Translator Component of Tourist Information System

Abstract

This paper is devoted to the problem of communication of people with hearing disabilities during the tourist trip. The Ukrainian Sign Language is taken into account. The analysis of sing language translation systems is given in the paper. The authors are working on the “Tourist sign translation system” as a component of “Mobile information assistant of the tourist”, that provides wide range of services on all stages of the trip. The functions and the structure of the system is provided with the help of UML diagrams. The translation system consists of two main components: “Offline Phrasebook” and “Individual Translator”, so it can be used as online and offline. The users of the system are tourists, users with hearing disabilities and administrator. This component used the rule-based method of the translation into Ukrainian Sign Language using concept dictionary. As a result, a project of the Ukrainian sign translator is being presented.
