Abstract

This chapter focuses on energy storage from an electrical engineering perspective, especially the role of storage in supporting ancillary system services. It takes a ‘deeper dive’ into important aspects of electrical systems and the ways in which energy storage relates to these, especially when deployed in conjunction with high penetration variable renewable energy (VRE). It is intended to provide an introduction to technical aspects, but in a form that is accessible for non-specialists.
