Abstract

Bone marrow is the most common site of extranodal involvement in lymphoid neoplasms, and evaluation of bone marrow is an important process in the work-up of patients with lymphoma. Different lymphomas often demonstrate characteristic infiltration patterns in the bone marrow. Familiarity with patterns of marrow involvement can help in the differentiation of reactive and neoplastic lymphoid infiltrates as well as the subclassification of lymphomas in the bone marrow. This chapter summarizes the key pathological features of common mature B- and T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas and Hodgkin lymphomas in the bone marrow, discusses the diagnostic challenges, and emphasizes the importance of integration of morphologic findings with the results of ancillary studies and clinical context in the evaluation of bone marrow involvement by lymphoid neoplasms.
