Abstract

The green movement has become one of the most visible movements during the last few years. Within the green sector, three overlapping yet clearly definable directions can be distinguished: animal advocacy, nature conservation, and environmentalism. This book is a collection of my personal heroes, a subjective selection of the leading characters among animal advocates, nature conservationists, and environmentalists, ranging from an ancient religious leader to a contemporary movie star. Instead of conventional biographies, I provide readers with portraits, based on biographical data, scientific facts, celebrity stories, historical circumstances, ethical principles, green strategies and tactics, and thought-provoking quotes. My hope is that the green heroes I wrote about in this book will inspire many people to take action and make the world a better place.
