Abstract
The goal in mastering body language is to create a sense of presence—a quality that compels the audience to look at you in a positive way. Presence creates the expectation that something extraordinary is about to happen. According to Sarnoff and Moore (1987), presence is generated through the ways in which we carry ourselves. They have identified a number of factors that can affect the perception of whether or not you have presence: your physical bearing, the way you enter the room, the quality of your support material, the atmosphere in the room, and the makeup of the audience. Only some of these factors are under your control, and body language is one of them.
