Abstract

This chapter covers the diagnosis and treatment of immunologic diseases of the skin, some of which are more common in black skin. The diseases covered include systemic lupus erythematosus, photodermatoses, sarcoidosis, lichen sclerosis et atrophicus, dermatomyositis, and Sweet syndrome. The ability to diagnose these diseases with a keen eye can facilitate an appropriate therapeutic work-up of systemic symptoms or disease associations. Prompt and proper treatment of these diseases can improve cutaneous symptoms and also decrease systemic disease burden and morbidity.
