Abstract
Every applicant who gets matched may not be to the program of their choice all the time. According to the NRMP data, it shows the match percentage of the individual applicants to their first choice is 36.6%, and the top three choices are more than half, which is 51.5%. The top reasons to prefer a program, in particular have well to do with the support from partner, family, other residents, and perception of being rested. The various channels where a resident could find information regarding an open position in the program of their choice is through portals like residencyswap.org or FREIDA. However, the critical criteria needed are timely communication with their chosen program for any opening, which is very uncommon.
