Abstract
The residency program’s motive for interviewing an applicant is to know them beyond his/her accomplishments on the application. Hence, an interview is a key factor in the ranking of an applicant, and the question arises regarding having a perfect number to get successfully matched. The contiguous ranking is the applicant’s program rank order list having programs of the same desired specialty before they rank other specialties. According to NRMP data, the more the applicants rank programs of their desired specialty, the higher the chances of the matching outcome. Both US and non-US IMGs who matched to their preferred specialties have longer contiguous rank lists than those who did not match in almost all specialties.
