Abstract

In this chapter we will consider the principles of projection and the associated method of back-project reconstruction. We will apply these principles to X-ray Computed Tomography (CT), Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET). In doing so, we will explore why PET can achieve a higher resolution than SPECT, but requires a different device design than needed for X-ray CT and SPECT.
