    Kelly would ultimately spend 340 days on this single mission, still a record for an American. Next longest American mission is Peggy Whitson’s subsequent 289 days during Expeditions 50, 51 and 52. The global record is still held by Valeri Polyakov, who spent 427 days on board Mir in 1994/1995 as part of a Mars mission analog.
