Abstract

Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) is an essential measuring tool for monitoring, control and protection of power system network by providing time-stamped synchronized measurement details for voltage, current and frequency of an operational grid. As the installation cost of each PMU is high; therefore, it is necessary to install a reduced number of PMU to give full observability to the entire power system network. There are various conventional and heuristic approaches are proposed to solve this optimal placement problem (OPP) of PMU. In this paper, only the heuristic techniques are discussed to solve this OPP problem.
