Abstract

Revision peroneal surgery represents a small percentage of peroneal surgery overall; however, this makes the surgery even more difficult when encountered. This chapter will cover evaluating peroneals after surgery with advanced imaging modalities, anatomical variances regarding foot configuration, and surgical approaches. The chapter will touch on new surgical repairs, while avoiding surgical pitfalls. Initial exam can aid in correct diagnosis which can avoid unnecessary procedures. Finally, surgical technique will be covered including primary tenodesis to possible allograft reconstruction. Some controversial topics will also be addressed, such as peroneal groove deepening vs cartilaginous repair only. Overall, this chapter will provide a concise and informative stepwise approach from diagnosis to surgical strategies for the orthopedic surgeons’ armamentarium.
