Abstract
This chapter aims to investigate in theory and practice how servant leadership affects the mission and the governance, as well as the strategies and organizational culture of companies fostering innovative sustainable business models. To this end, attention is addressed to the Economy of Communion (EoC) enterprises that are based on the pillars of universal fraternity, communion and the culture of giving. Given that the poor’s aid is the main purpose of the EoC project, which applies the communion of tangible and intangible assets, EoC companies manifest a coherent and peculiar servant leadership model. The work is empirically grounded since it focuses on an Italian business belonging to the EoC project (Mercurio Net) in which the will to serve (the poor) is “lived out.”
