Abstract
Ever since the 1940s, human rights have been used to highlight the importance of one’s topic and to support one’s arguments. Since their use has increased over time, it is extremely important to understand their history in this regard. When rights rhetoric increased in the 1970s, rights were mostly used as standards of criticism, with the exception of the right to private property, of course. Today, human rights arguments have become the norm in legal discourse, mostly because of their factual significance.
