Abstract
Bipolar disorder (BD) is a psychiatric disorder characterized by mood changes, ranging from mania episodes to depression (De Jesus et al. in Clin Biochem 50(18):1118–1125, 2017 [4]; Rizzo et al. in Neurosci Biobehav Rev 42:157–169, 2014 [12]). BD is a chronic, severe and recurrent disease that affects about 3% of the world population, being one of the main causes of death of patients by suicide (Belzeaux et al. in J Affect Disord 151(3):1009–1015, 2013 [1], Fulford et al. in J Affect Disord 152–154:491–497, 2014 [7]).
