Abstract

The emissions of anthropogenic carbon dioxide have been considered as the noticeable contributor to the global warming. Many technologies are developed to mitigate the global warming issue through controling the emission of greenhous gasses into the environment. Among the existing methods, post-combustion process is a very promising approach for capturing carbon dioxide. In this regard, various solvents such as amine-based solvents have been employed. The ionic liquid has also shown a great potential as a solvent for capturing carbon dioxide, recently.

In this chapter, various properties of ionic liquids such as selectivity and solubility of carbon dioxide will be discussed. Besides, previous researches in this regards will be reviewed. Furthermore, various strategies for improving the performance of ionic liquid will be introduced. Finally, the economic aspects of carbon dioxide capture process through ionic liquids, which is of paramount importance in the industrial scale, will be evaluated.
