Abstract

Fifteen contributors discuss the historical development, fundamental principles, conceptual innovations, changes, technical improvements and current procedures used in the application of the zygomatic implant. A variety of protocols are presented for the installation of the implant together with variation in prosthesis concept and design based on sound biomechanical principles. The use of the zygomatic implant is described for the treatment of atrophic maxilla and a variety of congenital, traumatic and surgical defects. The cross-section of expertise contributing to this book is wide and sometimes diverse. Accordingly, potential philosophical difficulties related to paradigm entrenchment and confirmation bias are explored.
