Abstract
The meconium plug syndrome is a functional colonic obstruction in a newborn due to an obstructing meconium plug. It is also called functional immaturity of the colon. It is usually transient and affects the left colon. It is characterized by delayed passage (>24–48 h) of meconium and intestinal obstruction and dilatation. The clinical features, diagnosis and management are discussed.
