Abstract
The first day of the Conference on the Origin of the Moon featured seven invited review talks on the range of disciplines pertinent to theories on the formation of the Moon, plus eight short papers related to geophysical constraints for these theories. In particular, the collisional impact theory was being examined, and arguments were made for and against that reemerging theory. Access to increasingly powerful computers allowed the simulation of the formation of the terrestrial planets through collisions and aggregations of smaller bodies in the early solar system. Other sophisticated techniques allowed more quantitative geophysical constraints to be developed.
