Abstract

This chapter outlines the institutions which govern the European Union (EU) as well as the decision-making process accompanied with it. This includes the European Council, the European Parliament and the European Commission. The function, composition as well as the procedures which are followed by the institutions will be introduced. Furthermore, this chapter outlines the decision-making procedures at the EU level including the voting mechanisms, which create legal ‘acts’ such as regulations, directives, decisions and recommendations in the EU.
