Abstract

At the previous TST Conference in 2018, the paper “Use of automatic identification system as a source of information to avoid ships’ collisions at sea” was presented. It discussed the results of research conducted on sea-going vessels to verify the accuracy of data transmitted by AIS ship’s equipment and compare it with the accuracy of radar tracking devices. This paper expands and summarizes the information it contains and compares the results of measurements with the accuracy requirements defined in the recommendation of the International Maritime Organization and the standards of the International Electrotechnical Commission. In addition, it contains remarks on the possibility of detecting manoeuvres of ships using AIS and radar tracking devices.
