Abstract

There is a lot of confusion around the concepts ‘placebo’ and ‘placebo effect’ both among lay people and the medical profession. The primary aim of this book has been to make sense of these concepts and the phenomena they refer to. In the first chapter I introduced the problems and most of the following chapters have elaborated these issues in the light of empirical research and conceptual analysis. Here, I shall shortly summarise the findings.
