Abstract
As we run in or through the city, can we also metaphorically ‘run’ it, that is, feel a sense of ownership and autonomy? Set against the backdrop of running as a mass fitness practice and a world in turmoil, and referencing Büscher and Southern, as well as the Situationist International’s psychogeography, the Chinese Daoist’s mind-body-world poetics, my art practice and etymologies of and expressions related to the English word ‘run’, this chapter introduces four tactics of ‘running art-fully’ as a mobile method within the city. The aim is to catalyse people from all walks—artists, non-artists, runners, non-runners—to consider and test out the poetic implications of running. The invitation is also for readers to invent yet other ‘strong minded acts of imagination to sidestep collapse’, and to extend applications beyond the city.
