Endoluminal Gastric Pouch Revision

Abstract

Bariatric surgery remains the mainstay for effective management of obesity and its comorbidities. However, despite initial success, 10–30% of bariatric patients will regain initial weight loss with 14% of which requires revision surgery. Weight gain after bariatric surgery is often a result of gastric pouch or anastomosis dilation. Traditionally, operative gastric pouch revision was employed to manage weight recidivism with mixed results. More recently, there have been a wide variety of bariatric endoluminal therapies to limit the functional capacity of the gastric pouch. These techniques may provide an effective minimally invasive approach and could be good alternatives for treatment of weight recidivism after restrictive bariatric procedures.
