Abstract

In this chapter we trace the creation of the wave theory of light and of the theory of diffraction by Grimaldi , Huygens , Young , Fresnel , and Kirchhoff . We recall the calculation of the diffraction by half-plane in the Fresnel-Kirchhoff approximation.
