Abstract
The characteristic feature of hypoxaemic acute respiratory failure (HARF) is a decrease of the arterial content of oxygen not corrected by conventional oxygen therapy. It is an expression of alteration of gas exchanges caused by different medical conditions. The NIV is often used to improve oxygenation and reduce the intubation rate and its complications. Furthermore, using NIV, it needed a very cautious approach and careful patient selection.
