Abstract
In the recent years, there has been a growing interest among Muslims living in Western countries in volunteering, and they are often much younger than most other volunteers. The desire to do something beneficial for their community and for the wider society is becoming a visible reality for many Muslims, and Muslim youth in particular. The book not only unpacks Muslims’ volunteering experiences but also the reception of their practices by social and political institutions. The trajectory is not always smooth-sailing as Muslims can be subject to surveillance and backlash for their activisms. In some cases, Muslim volunteering is acknowledged as a performance of citizenship and social participation, while in other cases it is met with doubt and contention.
