Abstract
After LHC Run 3, the accelerator will undergo an ambitious luminosity upgrade \(\mathscr {L}=7\cdot 10^{34}\,\mathrm {cm}^{-2}\mathrm {s}^{-1}\) ushering the era of the High-Luminosity LHC. In the course of the associated detector upgrades, a significant number of Monitored Drift Tube (MDT) chambers is planned to be replaced. In order to predict the behaviour of the currently installed MDT chambers within the forthcoming high rate conditions, the background hit rates, spatial resolution and reconstruction efficiency of individual MDT chambers are measured using LHC Run 2 collision data.
