Abstract
Bloembergen sails on a Liberty ship through the Channel on its way to the United States. Liberty ships have no mine detectors and they only have a primitive warning system: a ship’s boy stands on the bow and looks out for mines. If he sees something, he gestures and shouts wildly at the bridge.

The BS or domestic armed forces were created on 5 September 1944 and stemmed from three important opposition groups: the Order Service, the Rural Fighters, and the Council of Resistance. At the time, the BS consisted of no more than 10,000 men. The commander was Prince Bernhard.

Edema is a swelling of body parts due accumulation of fluids. It can occur for various diseases and is caused by a disruption of the water intake. Hunger edema is due to a protein deficit brought about by a limited range or amount of food. Any loss of protein from the blood has an impact on the water metabolism due to the disappearance of the colloid osmotic pressure, and that means that no water can be extracted from the tissues. In the case of a hunger edema, water tends to accumulate in the abdomen (hunger belly). From: www.healthsquare.nl.

The Dutch government in London faced huge administrative problems after the liberation of the Netherlands. That is why administration was legally entrusted to a military government that was set up for this purpose. The legally trained Major-general Mr. H. J. Kruls was chief of staff of the Military Authority. This authority was founded in 1944 and dissolved in 1946. Kruls remained in charge throughout this period nl.wikipedia.org.

After a few years, Bloembergen was able to pay the amount back to his father at a much more favorable rate, so that he didn’t lose out on balance.
