Part of the book series: Palgrave Studies in Young People and Politics ((PSYPP))

Abstract

This chapter begins by introducing the research and discusses how the organisation and mobilisation of social movements have changed and continue to do so in the digital age. It reviews the works of social movement and communications scholars who analysed the recent Occupy Protests and Arab Uprisings and urge a shift in the discussion about the opportunities that ICTs present to certain movements to the real capabilities of the technology. The chapter contains detailed descriptions of the methodology conducted for this study and the main arguments of the book, which are centred around the three themes of repertoires, leadership and resources. I also give details of the outline of the book.
