Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to discuss how organizational leaders communicate during a crisis situation. The chapter will incorporate Biblical scripture to support communication theories such as the Attribution Theory and Situational Crisis Communication. The chapter will discuss the recent event and how they were handled by organizational leaders. It will outline crisis communication strategies for organizational leaders. These strategies are (1) instructional information, (2) adjusting information, and (3) reputation repair. Subsequently, the chapter will proceed to present a definition of a crisis and the events that characterize crisis communication. Furthermore, the crisis communication theories that are presented are intended to support the specific models such as the situational communication crisis that is elaborated to rationalize the chosen choices. The chapter concludes by presenting approaches that have been proven to produce effective frameworks.
