Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to provide a brief overview of the leading challenges towards the implementation of effective CVE (countering violent extremism) policies and programmes. The existence of these contemporary challenges legitimises the need for a series for a variety of evidence-based solutions; the complexity of the issue reinforces the argument that ‘no one solution’ fits all. The overall aim of the subsequent chapters of this book is to examine different leading European CVE methodologies and measures that on a case-by-case basis have established a positive impact on a variety of target audiences and communities. These predominantly preventative measures may serve as a series of best practices for practitioners, as well as encouraging counter-radicalisation stakeholders to consider a wide variety of dynamic approaches from many different national and localised perspectives.
