Abstract

This chapter reviews the use of endovascular techniques for injuries to the extremities. After a brief discussion of damage control surgery for vascular extremity injuries, the discussion reviews the relevant literature on endovascular surgery by anatomic regions including lower extremity vascular injury and upper extremity vascular injury. In many ways, the blood vessels of the extremities are least suitable for endovascular repair. Since larger blood vessels are easier to treat in general, most of the reported use of endovascular techniques has been in the femoral and axillo-subclavian arteries. Most of the literature describing endovascular surgery in the tibial and forearm arteries are case reports. Despite these limitations, this chapter aims to review endovascular surgery for extremity vascular injury and discuss current management strategies and associated literature.
