Abstract
Abdominal pain in children is one of the commonest clinical presentations to the primary physician (general practitioner or paediatrician). This chapter outlines the salient features in the history and examination that would help to differentiate between the different common causes of abdominal pain. Also discussed are the common causes of abdominal pain for different age groups and the key differentiating features for some common conditions. Potential ‘red flags’ that could be pointers to specific problems are highlighted as a quick and easy guide to managing children with abdominal pain.
