Societal Impact of Headache

Part of the book series: Headache ((HEAD))

Abstract

A review of all headache epidemiological studies then available was published in 2007. These papers formed the basis for the prevalence calculations in the Global Burden of Disease 2010.

An update of this review is underway. While there are still many countries where headache prevalence is unknown, there now exist good data from some very large and populous countries not covered in the previous review. This chapter presents some preliminary data from the update, on prevalence and various aspects of headache-attributed burden, and discusses some of the potential methodological causes of the variance seen between the different studies.
