Abstract
This chapter explores the challenges faced by individuals who are themselves from culturally diverse backgrounds engaging with intercultural exchange in the academic context. It raises questions about the role of the academic—what and how they contribute (sometimes unwittingly) to the discourse and to intercultural awareness; the purpose and impact of exchanges on individuals within an unequal North-South relationship; and the long-term aspirations to which organisations might aspire.
