Abstract

Several physics processes in proton-proton collisions result in the production of final states with prompt photons, which are photons not originating from the decays of hadrons. The processes with the largest cross-sections are the production of photons in association with jets (\(qg,q\bar{q}\rightarrow \gamma +X\)) and the production of photons pairs (\(gg,q\bar{q}\rightarrow \gamma \gamma \)). Prompt photons are also produced in rare events, such as di-photon decays of the Higgs boson or even predicted by BSM models such as the Supersymmetry model investigated in Chap.  10.
