Abstract

In this paper, a coplanar waveguide fed inspired by a broadside coupled hexagonal split ring resonator (SRR) antenna is designed for X-band applications is presented. A broadside coupled hexagonal SRR antenna used to achieve dual-bands, which operates at 8.52 GHz, 11.38 GHz with a return loss (S11) of −32.6 dB, −23.5 dB respectively. The impedance bandwidth (S11 < −10 dB) is 2.42 GHz (7.78–10.20 GHz) for the first band and 1.16 GHz (10.68–11.84 GHz) for the second band. The size of antenna is 25 × 31 × 1.6 mm3 implemented and its prototype model is fabricated on FR4 Epoxy substrate that achieves peak directivity of 4.83 dB, 4.74 dB at dual-bands. This antenna effectively used for X-band applications with radiation efficiency of 95.35%, 84.53% respectively at dual-bands. The parametric analysis of gap between top and bottom hexagonal SRR and extraction of dispersion characteristics is presented. We observe that there is an excellent agreement between the simulation results and that of experimental results for the designed antenna of our work.
