Abstract
This article proposes miniature Circularly Polarized (CP) active antenna for GPS+GLONASS application. It consists of four corner unequal truncated Microstrip Patch Antenna (MSA) etched on top PCB, edge coupled compact Band Pass Filter (BPF) & high gain Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) etched on bottom PCB. The two PCBs are attached back to back with common ground plane & inserted in aluminum housing and RF connection provided to the antenna Vertical Interconnect Access (VIA) SMA female connector. This arrangement enhances SNR for detecting the inherently weaker GPS+GLONASS signals. Fabricated the antenna, validated its electrical performance in far field test range. The measured gain of the active antenna is >30 dBiC and Axial Ratio <4 dB over the band of 1.57 to 1.61 GHz and also conformed the performance in satellite live test detection. The hardware is qualified to use in air borne application.
