Abstract
An understanding of endoscope function and endoscopy tower setup is required for safe and successful endoscopy. In this chapter we review the basics of endoscope design and function, endoscope tower setup and troubleshooting, as well as patient positioning and endoscopy suite organization. Setup specifics are included for esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
