Abstract
Caregiver or care partner burden is a common and complex issue in the care of homebound patients, especially those with dementia. “Care partner” is the preferred term because it reflects the reciprocal nature of the relationship. Here we present a case of a patient with dementia who is declining, and it is unclear whether care partner burden may be contributing to patient’s decline. We suggest that providers assess the care partner with a validated caregiver burden scale such as Zarit Burden Interview as the first step in a person-centric model to manage symptoms and tailor patient and care partner interventions.
