Abstract
Using graphic, written models is an invaluable way to capture data, insights, and options as we collect and outline our thinking and develop our decision-making. Many models and processes that use visual or written methods to capture, refine, and organize our thinking have been developed. The approach most applicable to clinical practice is mind-mapping. Mind-mapping is a simple, easily mastered approach to help organize our thoughts, identify and prioritize problems, uncover where we need more data, and convert our thinking from a centrifugal to a centripetal mode. It is an excellent decision-making tool. Mind-mapping cannot only help us develop a differential diagnosis but also define a management plan and assign tasks and responsibilities for a team. Mind-mapping is also an excellent tool to organize a talk or written product such as a lecture or case summary.
