Abstract

In this interview, Arturo Ripstein and screenwriter Paz Alicia Garciadiego discuss their first collaborations, including El imperio de la fortuna (1986), Mentiras piadosas (1989), La mujer del puerto (1991), Principio y fin (1993), and the making of El evangelio de las maravillas (1998). Specifically, they describe the process of writing screenplays and transforming them into films. They also delve into a discussion of the melodrama and Arturo Ripstein describes how, while making Mentiras Piadosas and contemplating the significance of jealousy in the film, discovered his preference for filming long sequences.
