Emotion, Personality and Cultural Aspects in Crowds

Abstract

The content of this chapter covers emotion, cultural aspects, and personality traits, how these aspects are culturally and psychologically characterized, and how these factors affect pedestrians in a crowd. Regarding emotions, Ortony, Clore, and Collins (The cognitive structure of emotions. Cambridge University Press, New York) proposed an emotion model called OCC, which is described in Sect. 3.4. Related to personality, we used the descriptive (taxonomic) psychological model of five factors of personality traits called Big-Five (OCEAN). This model is presented in details in Sect. 3.3. In terms of cultural aspects, we used the Cultural Dimensions of Hofstede (HCD) (Culture’s consequences: comparing values, behaviors, institutions, and organizations across nations. Sage Publications, Thousand Oaks), which is described in Sect. 3.2.
